The Dutch word ‘spijkerbroek’ is mainly used in the Netherlands. So it’s actually the same thing as jeans. The term comes from the ‘spijker’, or rivet, used in making jeans. These rivets are made of metal and help reinforce the garment and finish the seams. What’s more, jeans – or a ‘spijkerbroek’ – are always made of denim.
